Blanket Exercise Facilitation

Boozhoo/Aaniin/Sago/Greetings!

The KARIOS Blanket Exercise is an interactive activity that takes you through the history of colonization in Canada. The exercise was created by KARIOS as a response to the 1996 report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples in 1997 with consultation from Indigenous Elders and representatives.

We have been facilitating the Blanket Exercise for over 5 years and we are very passionate about sharing Indigenous truth.

If you haven't had an opportunity to participate in a Blanket Exercise, we highly recommend it! It is a great first step towards Truth and Reconciliation.

We can come to businesses, non-profit organizations, churches, schools, or anywhere you would like to host an exercise! Just fill out the form below and we will send you a quote.

Here is what participants have shared about their experience..

"Jody was intimately placed to offer a profound experiential journey for the participants. This is commendable. Her husband's presence and close connection went a long way to add authenticity. Perhaps an entire and extended family production including children and living ancestors would add intensity to garner greater appreciation, understanding and transformation for all players of significance in this historical reality drama." - Anonymous

"Jodi inspires me to learn more. Her calm demeanor and honesty gives the audience a feeling of comfort, and freedom to ask questions which might not be acceptable under other circumstances." - Karen

"Jodi was very kind and patient and answered all of our questions and shared her and her families lived experiences." - Christine

"Thank you Jodi for the amazing day! the day was full of friendship and fun. I chose to spend Truth and Reconciliation Day attending the blanket exercise and cultural experience. I was so glad that I did! The blanket exercise is interactive and everyone has a role to play. I was given a baby who was taken to a residential school. I imagined what it would be like to have my child stolen from me. We were encouraged to look around to see what little land was left, and the fractured indigenous communities. There is a debrief at the end of the blanket exercise. We were encouraged to share our feelings about the exercise. This was a safe environment and Jodi encouraged us to ask any question. Jodi answered all questions openly and honestly. Lunch was hearty incredibly tasty and authentic. I enjoyed the fry bread which I have always wanted to try. You will not leave hungry Lastly the cultural experience was fabulous. We learned about the jingle dress was especially interesting to me. Jodi explained how the dresses and jingles were made and their significance when dancing. Jodi showed us a few dances and then got the whole group up dancing. Thank you for graciously sharing your culture with us. I cannot say how thankful I am to have attended." - Karol
